The members of Lyons Lab are committed to fostering an inclusive workplace culture. We know that diversity powers innovation and creativity. The work we do is challenging; the environment in which we do it should be equitable and welcoming. We recruit with diversity in mind at all levels, including high school, undergraduate and graduate students, and postdoctoral scholars and technicians. Instructions for applying to open recruitments for postdoctoral positions and/or technician positions (including hourly undergrad workers) will be listed on our “Join” page. All prospective graduate students must contact Dr. Lyons before applying to masters and Ph.D. in the Scripps Ocean Biosciences Program. Our lab offers several types of opportunities for mentored undergraduate training, including through a cell and developmental biology CURE lab course (SIO146), research credit-based independent study, and summer research programs that aim to increase diversity (e.g. SIO’s SURF REU, SDB’s Choose Development, and U.C. San Diego’s PATHs). All members of the lab will be given the opportunity to engage in equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) activities that are appropriate for their career level (e.g. structured mentoring activities, curriculum development, workshops on EDI issues, and our weekly book club, which includes titles on EDI and antiracism).
